Barbie goes bald

Mattel To Make Hairless ‘Barbie Doll’ For Cancer Victims
Following up on the ongoing campaign on Facebook ‘Beautiful and Bald Barbie’, toy manufacturer Mattel will be creating a bald version of its Barbie doll for young cancer patients who suffer from hair loss due to cancer treatments.
The doll, who will be a bald friend of Barbie, won’t be available in stores; rather it would be distributed exclusively to hospitals in the US and Canada that treat children with cancer.
“We made the decision not to sell these dolls at retail stores, but rather get the dolls directly into the hands of children who can most benefit from the unique play experience, demonstrating Mattel’s ongoing commitment to encourage play as a respite for children in the hospital and to bring joy to children who need it most,” Mattel posted on its Facebook page.
The doll will come with “wigs, hats, scarves and other fashion accessories to provide girls with a traditional fashion play experience”, the company wrote. Wigs and head coverings can also be interchanged or completely removed.
