Hot stuff

Why don't runners sweat? May be it's because they wear Hanes Contrast Tagless Sports Vest Tank Top Performance Wicking Breatheathable?




The onc. suggested a way to avoid the Tamoxifen induced night sweats could be to wear a wicking breathable running vest.

So now, maybe only in my dreams, I can run the New York marathon.

Chelsea Flower Show?

No, my front garden.




As I'm not allowed in the sun I have covered myself with false tan and tried an experiment, One leg in L'Oreal, the other in Soltan, one arm in Clarins and the other in Garnier.


Only trouble is I've already forgotten which is which.

Lash'n'load




Now we are all roasting in this mini heat wave I felt the need for a bit of scrubbing up. Some eyebrows maybe and oh let's go crazy, also some eyelashes. Then I discovered semi permanent eyelashes, well colour me happy.

You'll have to live near Brighton to enjoy the experience but after months of nothing, this is a wonderful treat.

Going nuts





The sun's come out and so have the barbeques and I have decided to try vegetarianism.

There are certain types of foods to avoid during breast cancer treatment:
Charred and deep-fried foods.
Both cause a condition known as "internal heat" in the Stomach, which can cause a functional disorder, i.e., it will cause the Stomach to perform its jobs, especially digestion, poorly.
(Avoid these foods during chemotherapy and radiation, since the treatments themselves already create excess heat in the body.)
Also another no-no; Raw vegetables.




Eating too many raw vegetables weakens the Stomach and Spleen, two vital organs that must work in harmony for breast-cancer prevention. Although some nutrition is lost cooking vegetables, raw vegetables take lots more energy to digest than cooked vegetables. If you eat raw vegetables and drink raw vegetable juice and you experience excess gas, Stomach gurgling or bloating,
Delightful, so that's what it was...

Also avoid Alcohol,Cold or iced foods and beverages. To reduce the condition of "internal cold" as much as possible, avoid foods with a cold temperature. The old man will like this bit: Drink more tea! Sorry Jim, only if it's green and absolutely no dairy. Well, that's him out.

Your Stomach functions best when the foods you eat are warm, or room temperature (including water). Consuming cold foods and beverages frequently can unbalance your Stomach function.

Your Breast Cancer Prevention Shopping List:
Vegetables including;
Onions, ginger, garlic, fennel
Broccoli, aubergine, carrot, celery, Radish, Chinese radish (daikon) Bamboo, lotus Beans, Chinese beans, bean curd (tofu), bean sprouts, soy products (such as soy milk) Mushrooms (any kind). Now this could be a problem...




Nuts
walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts, peanuts, chestnuts.




Fruit
Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, Dates, Pineapple, Watermelon, Kiwi, lemon, pears. Bananas are out?




Honey, (so plant more bee friendly flowers) bee pollen, honeycomb, Chinese barley,
now this list is getting silly but give it a go if you can resist the smell of bacon.

Rough haired guinea pig

Oh do keep up, the look for the hair is no longer old tennis ball, it is now guinea pig. Although the new hair feels very soft, it grows where ever it wants to, I've even got a soon to be on trend bit of a mullet, on only one side, naturally. Also, I resemble this fellow a bit more than I would like. I've got 'peach down' all over my face, and the odd whisker. All I need is to be able to squeak constantly and we could be twins.

The Abyssinian breed of Guinea pig is known for its short, rough coat that has cowlicks of hair. The name Abyssinian comes from the origin of its geographical region of Abyssinia which is present day Ethiopia. The average Abyssinian has 10 rosettes, one on each shoulder, four across, one on each of the hips, and two on the rear. Just like me.

Corr, she did it! Susie and I have a lot in common, currently we are both knackered!

I met Susie at Chelsea School of Art quite a few years ago and we are still chums. We have been there for each other though thick and thin. Oh here comes the joke... Have you got it yet? Susie's thin and...

Anyway two Pollys later plus other births, deaths and marriages, we continue our friendly competitiveness. (We nearly fell out when I discovered her pet rat in my bed.) Over the years we continue on our quests, I try to see how ill I can get and Susie likes to do daft things to see just how worried she can make all of us.

What a terrific girl!

Gone phishing





After receiving crank calls for the last year, I decided to ignore the numerous calls we got from a robot yesterday. Big mistake, huge. It was only when the old man took the ninth call that I thought oops. He passed me the phone and said 'listen to this, you will speak to a human.' I don't often do what I'm told but this time I thought I had better oblige.

When the incomings are meagre, the outgoings have to be likewise, it's a no brainer. So imagine my horror when the very nice lady from the bank reeled off a list of apparent outgoings from my bank account, including payment to a hotel in America and £4,000 worth of jewellery. Even Liz Taylor got one of her husbands to pay for hers.

My card has been cancelled, this time the phish didn't get away.

The tutu project

My lovely daft daughter sent me this:


The Tutu Project began in 2003 as a lark. I mean, really, think of it. Me photographing myself in a pink tutu, how crazy is that?

But nine years ago my wife, Linda, and I moved to the East Coast and, as odd as it may sound it, the self-portraits proved to be a perfect way of expressing myself. Why? Because even though the move was exciting, exhilarating, and inspiring, it was 180 degrees from what I knew. So I took the old, mixed it in with the new, and kept the tutu handy.

Six months after the move, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She beat it, only to have it recur in 2006. During these past nine years, I’ve been in awe of her power, her beauty, and her spirit. Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others.

Enter Ballerina, the book. Not only is it a collection of my tutu images, it also shares many humorous stories about the adventures of a guy and his pink tulle. So far, there has been a tremendous response to the series of photos—people are particularly moved by the images. And their interest and enthusiasm have made us want to share that experience with as many people as possible in the form of a book, so that we can raise money to help other women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

This autumn, I will self-publish Ballerina. The net proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to breast cancer organizations, including Cancercare.org and the Beth Israel Department of Integrative Medicine Fund, that make significant differences in the lives of women with breast cancer and in the people who love them. Our goal is to raise $75,000. But we need your help to seed the book project so it will take root and grow—and positively affect these families.

time for cheeky exercise

I made my first attempt at exercise today. Alright, so I don't look like the very fit lady here but it's something to aim for. Ha ha! 


First I had to find them, then I blew the dust off my Pilates DVDs, that was exhausting, then I had to unroll the exercise mat, then I had to have a sit down. I managed the warm up and cool down bits but will probably ache tomorrow. Thank goodness the telly can't talk. 


Pilates is a good way to get the body moving, in the privacy of your home and very baggy clothes. Some people say it's just posh breathing but Pippa Middleton's bum says otherwise. Apparently only fit people are seen out exercising in public so I promise not to do anything like that.
